Pleasantly Surprised!

BY Maximus ON 19th Nov 2017 5 Stars

I was very pleasantly surprised by this meal - it actually tastes better than a few fresh versions I've eaten in the past, both from supermarkets and takeaways! For a freeze dried packet meal with a seven year shelf life that's pretty impressive!

There's a really good mix of herbs and spices in this, which give it a well rounded flavour with good depth and complexity. Proper attention to seasoning make all the difference, and the effort has certainly paid off here.

Some of the chicken chunks are a good size too, which is excellent, but means you need to allow sufficient time for proper re-hydration. I found that preparing with boiling water and keeping it covered and insulated for 20 minutes or so worked well. As I've mentioned in another review here, a wide mouth thermos pot or double walled mug is excellent for this if preparing a portion from a bulk tin. From a packet just re-seal the top and wrap it in spare clothes to keep it nice and hot.

Top marks for this meal! It deserves a place on your short list.
