Tasty and Satisfying!

BY Maximus ON 16th Nov 2017 5 Stars

Of all the different FYP main meals I've tried so far, this one is my personal favourite.

There's a nice mix of chicken, rice and vegetable, and it tastes very close to fresh supermarket versions. The flavour is enhanced by the addition of onion, pineapple juice, garlic and bell peppers, and the end result is a well rounded, well seasoned, tasty and satisfying meal. Basically, it isn't bland, and that's important for moral in a survival or expedition environment.

I find it easy to re-hydrate by adding boiling water and mixing well. The best plan is to add a little water, mix, then add more as required. You can always add more, but you can't subtract, so best not to over-do it and end up with soup.

My best results when creating single meal portions were obtained by placing 100g in a mixing container, adding boiling water and leaving it for 15 minutes to re-hydrate fully, with an occasional brisk stir and water top-up as required. Wide necked stainless thermos pots are perfect for this, being the a perfect size and keeping the meal warm too. I also highly recommend a long handled titanium MRE spoon as the perfect mixing and eating tool.

Impatience is a danger, and if you try to eat it too soon you might encounter crunchy rice or tough chicken. If you do, go back and modify your prep next time, use a little more water and stir it more often.

Some of the other FYP meals have a very high fat content, but this one is okay, which along with the great taste and texture earn it a full five stars from me!
